Mango Mayor Orders Night-Time Garbage Collection to Boost Sanitation

Jamshedpur: To address the challenges of a growing population and rising traffic, Mango mayor Sudha Gupta has directed the implementation of night-time waste collection across the city. The decision came during a high-level review meeting held at the Mango Municipal Corporation (MMC) office, where the mayor assessed current waste management systems with civic officials and contractors. “Maintaining a clean city is a shared duty between the corporation and its citizens,” Gupta noted.

Strategic Shifts in Waste Management

Gupta emphasized that standard daytime operations are no longer sufficient to meet public expectations. Key directives issued during the meeting include:

  • Night-Time Operations: Shifting waste lifting to nighttime hours to reduce daytime traffic congestion and ensure markets and major roads are clean by morning.
  • Holiday Cleaning Schedules: The creation of special sanitation plans for Sundays and public holidays to prevent waste accumulation during non-working days.
  • Modernization of Fleet: Instructions to expedite the procurement of new garbage collection vehicles to improve service coverage in peripheral wards.
  • Manpower Boost: A direct order to contractors to increase the number of sanitation workers, ensuring no ward is neglected due to staff shortages.

“Clean Mango, Healthy Mango” Vision

Municipal Deputy Commissioner Krishna Kumar reaffirmed the corporation’s dedication to the “Clean Mango, Healthy Mango” initiative. He announced the formation of monitoring teams to oversee contractor performance and ensure that waste collection does not cause inconvenience to residents.
