Jamshedpur: A political controversy has emerged in the Mango Municipal Corporation after former candidate Sandhya Singh accused Mayor Sudha Gupta of providing a false residential address in her election affidavit. Addressing a press conference in Sakchi, Singh alleged that Gupta mentioned Lotus Apartments in Mango as her place of residence for voter registration, despite never living there either before or after the election.
Singh claimed that the flat remains locked and that the Mayor has been residing in Kadma instead. Supporting the allegation, her counsel K.M. Singh stated that a petition has been filed under Sections 580 and 582 of the Jharkhand Municipal Act, 2011. The court has admitted the petition and scheduled the next hearing for May 15, 2026. The plea seeks to declare the municipal election held on February 27, 2026, as null and void.
Adding to the controversy, BJP leader Neeraj Singh also questioned the voter list, alleging discrepancies in the inclusion of Sudha Gupta’s name.
Mayor’s Office Rejects Allegations
Meanwhile, the Mayor’s office has strongly rejected the allegations. Press Advisor Sanjay Thakur termed the claims “baseless and misleading,” stating that matters related to voter registration and residency fall under the jurisdiction of administrative authorities and the Election Commission. He maintained that there was no irregularity in the process.
Thakur further said that the issue is currently sub judice and will be dealt with through legal proceedings. He also warned that legal action could be taken against individuals spreading what he described as defamatory and unverified claims.
The case is now set to be decided in court, with both sides preparing to present their arguments in the upcoming hearing.
