Man held with ammunition

Jamshedpur: City police today arrested one Ramesh Kayam with a cache of ammunition on the basis of a tip-off from Station Road area under Bagbera police station area.

This was informed by the SP (city) of Jamshedpur Kartik S. He said the police had received a tip-off about a person carrying arms illegally.

Soon a police team was set up to nab the accused. The accused said he had retired from the post of havildar from Bihar Regiment. He was found to be possessing 37 rounds of SLR cartridges, four AK 47 bullets and five 9 mm bullets. Police officials said they also found a train ticket, cash worth Rs 5585, an arms licence issued by the district magistrate of Anantnag district of Jammu and a mobile phone.

Cops said they were interrogating the accused to find out as to for whom was he carrying the ammunition. Cops suspect the man was carrying the ammunition illegally in a bid to hand it over to criminals, Naxalites or militants.
