Lohardaga (IANS): A man allegedly hacked his father and wife to death with an axe and critically injured his three-year-old daughter following a family dispute in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga district on Monday.
The incident occurred in Sengra Toli village under the Bhandra police station area and shocked local residents. Police arrested the accused, Sandeep Oraon, at the spot. The victims were identified as Surendra Oraon, 60, and Sujata Oraon, 27.
According to police and local residents, an argument broke out at the family’s home and quickly escalated. Investigators said Sandeep Oraon allegedly picked up an axe and attacked his father, Surendra Oraon. When his wife, Sujata Oraon, tried to intervene, he assaulted her with the same weapon.
Police said the accused also attacked his three-year-old daughter, Rianshi Oraon, leaving her critically injured.
Villagers rushed to the house after hearing screams, but found Surendra Oraon and Sujata Oraon dead. They discovered the injured child lying inside the house and immediately alerted the police.
Officer-in-charge Manoj Kumar Gupta and his team reached the scene, took the accused into custody, and launched an investigation.
Police rushed the injured child to the Community Health Centre in Bhandra. After providing first aid, doctors referred her to Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, for advanced treatment because of the severity of her injuries.
Investigators recovered the blood-stained axe allegedly used in the attack and sent the bodies to the district hospital for post-mortem examination. Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the deadly assault.
