Jamshedpur: Police here arrested one Chetanand Harpal, a native of Orissa residing in Kadma, on charges of exploiting girls and women physically in the name of helping them get employment.
The accused was arrested following a complaint lodged by the brother of a girl who was allegedly exploited physically by him in the name of securing a job for her in the Tata Main Hospital. He allegedly called the girl to get the application form for the said job at the hospital several days back. Later the girl was found missing. The girl was taken to Ranchi by the accused and exploited sexually for several days. She somehow escaped from captivity at Rourkela from where she was being taken elsewhere by the accused.
The case findings were revealed today by the senior superintendent of police, East Singhbhum, Amol Venukant Homkar. The SSP said a police team was set up to crack down on the accused who is charged with molestation, rape and other kind of exploitation of many girls and women under the false promise of giving them jobs in reputed firms and institutions.
The SSP said many girls and women had been called by the accused at different places in the city and elsewhere under the pretext of providing them employment opportunities. The jobs were never given to the victims who were kept in the dark by the accused for years.
A case was lodged against the accused with the Bistupur police station. Cops searched the house of the accused in Bhatia Busti, Kadma.
