Jamshedpur: In a significant move to bolster urban safety and prevent catastrophic property damage, the East Singhbhum district administration has directed the immediate stationing of fire engines within the premises of the Jugsalai Police Station.
The directive, issued by Deputy Collector under the orders of Deputy Commissioner (DC) Rajiv Ranjan, comes as a major sigh of relief for the dense residential and bustling commercial sectors of Jugsalai, which have historically suffered from delayed emergency response times.
A Swift Move Post-Factory Fire
The administrative action follows a formal appeal made by Sardar Shailendra Singh, President of the Jugsalai Municipality Ratepayers Association. On June 4, following a massive fire breakout at a local factory, Singh had submitted a memorandum to DC Rajiv Ranjan highlighting the precarious safety conditions of the area.
The 45-Minute Bottleneck
Jugsalai is widely known for its heavily populated neighborhoods and notoriously narrow, congested lanes. Prior to this decision, the locality depended entirely on fire tenders dispatched from the Golmuri Fire Station during emergencies.
Due to traffic congestion and the distance, fire engines frequently took upwards of 45 minutes to navigate their way to a fire scene in Jugsalai. This critical delay often turned minor short-circuit incidents into massive blazes, severely impacting local shopkeepers and homeowners.
Immediate Action Ordered
Taking note of the severe logistical bottlenecks, the Deputy Collector has officially written to the regional Fire Safety Officer, emphasizing that the fire tenders must be stationed at the Jugsalai Police Station without any further delay.
Local business owners and residents have widely welcomed the decision. “Having fire engines right here at the police station means help can arrive in minutes instead of nearly an hour. This will save countless livelihoods,” a local merchant stated.
The administration has also intimated that plans for a more comprehensive, modern fire station infrastructure tailored to the area’s tight geography are under long-term review.
