Jamshedpur, Oct 13: As the city ushers in the auspicious occasion of Durga Puja, the air is filled with fervor as devotees prepare to perform rituals on Mahalaya, marking the commencement of the festive season.

On Saturday, devotees across the district will observe Mahalaya, a significant day in Hindu tradition.

Mahalaya marks the beginning of the Devi Paksha and is considered an auspicious time to invoke goddess Durga and seek her blessings. Devotees are gearing up for early morning rituals, including listening to the enchanting recitation of Mahishasura Mardini by the legendary Birendra Krishna Bhadra. Many will visit river banks and other sacred places to offer tarpan (ritual offerings) to their ancestors.

The city streets are adorned with colorful lights, artistic decorations, and themed pandals, creating a vibrant and festive atmosphere. Puja committees and organizers have put in meticulous efforts to create unique and elaborate pandals that reflect the cultural diversity and creativity of the community.

Various cultural events, competitions, and community gatherings are planned throughout the city, fostering a sense of unity and celebration. Local businesses and markets are bustling with activity as residents shop for traditional attire, festive delicacies and gifts.
Organizers and authorities are implementing strict safety measures to ensure the well-being of devotees. Adequate arrangements for medical facilities have been put in place.
With Mahalaya setting the tone for the festive season, the city eagerly awaits the grand celebration of Durga Puja, which will commence with Maha Sasthi.
Devotees express their excitement and devotion, emphasizing the spiritual significance of Mahalaya and the joyous anticipation of the upcoming festivities. Many have shared their plans to visit pandals, participate in cultural events, and spend quality time with family and friends.
Meanwhile various puja committees are taking innovative steps to attract devotees. From skits to musical shows a lot of ideas are being used this year. The Circuit House Area puja committee, which boasts one of the oldest pandals in the city, is known for organising cultural events.
Huge rush of devotees are seen at the pandals of Jay Ram Sporting Club in Adityapur and Thakur Pyara Singh and Dharundhar Singh Club in Kashidih.
