Cyber awareness program empowers 1200 Students to Combat Online Threats
Jamshedpur: In a significant step towards combating the rising threat of cyber crimes, the District Education Department of East Singhbhum in collaboration with Cyber Peace Sansthan organized an extensive cyber awareness program aimed at educating students about the importance of cyber security. The event, which focused on raising awareness about the risks associated with the digital world, was conducted at Loyola School on Monday.

The cyber awareness session witnessed an overwhelming participation of over 1200 students from various private and government schools in the district. The main objective of the program was to provide students with the tools and knowledge needed to safeguard themselves from online threats, frauds, and other forms of cyber crime. With technology playing an increasingly central role in daily life, the need for digital literacy and online safety has never been more critical.

The program was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner, Ananya Mittal, who attended the event as the chief guest. Mittal spoke to the students about the growing prevalence of cyber crimes, especially among young individuals who are more active in the digital world. He expressed concern about the rising cases of cyber fraud, identity theft, and online scams that have been affecting individuals across the country. Mittal emphasized that cyber security is no longer just an individual concern but a collective responsibility, urging students to be proactive in their digital interactions.

In his address, Mittal highlighted several key measures to protect oneself in the online space. He discussed the importance of practicing safe online behavior, such as avoiding clicking on suspicious links or emails, safeguarding personal information, and setting strong, unique passwords for various online accounts. He also spoke about the importance of verifying information before sharing it online, as well as avoiding giving personal details to unknown websites or platforms.
“Awareness is the first and most effective line of defense against cyber crimes,” Mittal stated. “By remaining vigilant and practicing safe online habits, you can protect yourself from falling victim to digital fraud and contribute to building a safer online environment for everyone.”
Furthermore, Mittal encouraged students to report any suspicious online activity immediately. He advised them to reach out to the cyber police station or the concerned authorities in case they become victims of cyber crimes, frauds, or hacking attempts. According to him, timely reporting could help in taking appropriate action and preventing further damage.
The program also included a detailed technical session led by Kriti Srivastava, a trainer from Cyber Peace Sansthan, who provided students with practical measures for maintaining online security. During the session, Srivastava explained various tools and resources available to help individuals protect their privacy on the internet. She also introduced the students to some reliable websites that can be used to verify the authenticity of news and other information circulating on social media.
The event also witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including District Transport Officer Dhananjay, District Education Officer Ashish Kumar, State Coordinator of Cyber Peace Institute Tarak Das, as well as the Principal of Loyola School and other teachers.
