Kolkata: Indian Railways has initiated the redevelopment of Lohardaga Railway Station under the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme (ABSS), an ambitious project aimed at transforming railway stations across the country with improved passenger amenities, better accessibility and modern infrastructure. The scheme covers 72 stations under the South Eastern Railway zone, with each development plan tailored to the station’s specific needs.
The Lohardaga station, falling under the Ranchi division in Jharkhand, is set to undergo significant upgradation at an estimated cost of Rs 8.26 crore. Once completed, the project is expected to enhance both passenger experience and operational efficiency, while benefiting the mineral-rich region economically.

The redevelopment will include a new station building, improved circulating and parking areas, two lifts and a new 12-metre-wide foot overbridge. Additional features such as a redesigned approach road, entry and exit gates, porch and expanded platform shelters will also be constructed. Special facilities for Divyangjan — including ramps, toilets, parking areas and booking counters — will ensure inclusivity.
The upgraded station will also feature water booths, coach indication boards, waiting halls and seating painted in local art and cultural themes. “The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme reflects our commitment to making railway travel more passenger-friendly, accessible and culturally enriching,” an official from South Eastern Railway said
