Jamshedpur, Nov 29: The Loco Pilot Training Center at Tatanagar conducted a specialized training session for 400 loco pilots from the South Eastern Railway’s Ranchi, Adra, Chakradharpur, and Kharagpur divisions. The training focused on administering first aid for snake and dog bites during night duty, alongside a mock drill on the use of fire equipment in locomotives.
Civil Defence Inspector Santosh Kumar emphasized that of the 3,000 snake species worldwide, 275 are found in India, with only 15% being poisonous. He explained that snake bites occur primarily during feeding or when snakes feel threatened. Kumar highlighted that fatalities often result from panic and ignorance rather than the bite itself. Training also included identifying poisonous and non-poisonous snake bites and understanding the behavior of rabid and territorial dogs.
Anil Kumar Singh and Shankar Kumar Prasad, Civil Defence demonstrators, conducted a practical mock drill showcasing the use and precautions of CO2 and dry chemical powder fire extinguishers in locomotives. Female demonstrator Anamika Mandal demonstrated effective bandaging techniques for injuries. The session aimed to enhance loco pilots’ preparedness for emergencies.
