Local talent Nikhil Barla, young Sanan selected for India U-23 squad touring Tajikistan

Jamshedpur: In a significant boost for Jamshedpur’s football fraternity, local talents Nikhil Barla and Mohammed Sanan have been selected for the India U-23 squad set to tour Tajikistan. The squad, announced by head coach Naushad Moosa, comprises 23 players who will participate in friendly matches against Tajikistan and Kyrgyz Republic.

The India U-23 team has been training at the AIFF National Centre of Excellence in Kolkata since June 1 and departed for Tajikistan on June 16, 2025. The team’s schedule includes two crucial matches: against Tajikistan on June 18 and Kyrgyz Republic on June 21, both kicking off at 20:30 IST at the Hisor Central Stadium in Hisor.

These friendlies are part of the team’s preparations for the AFC U-23 Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers in September. The selection process began with 29 players, narrowing down to the final 23-member squad. Barla and Sanan, who were part of the initial probables, have earned their spots in the final list, marking a significant achievement for the duo and Jamshedpur’s football legacy.

Hailing from Khunti, Nikhil Barla has been making waves in the football world with his impressive performances in the Jamshedpur FC youth setup.
