Seraikela, May 19: A series of thunder and lightning wreaked havoc in the surrounding areas of Seraikela on Friday afternoon, resulting in a tragic incident that claimed the life of a 15-year-old boy and caused a tree fire near Durga Maidan. The sudden thunderstorm, accompanied by light drizzling rain, offered a respite from the scorching heat but brought unforeseen consequences.
In the village of Bhalubasa, Banddih panchayat, a devastating lightning strike took the life of a teenager, Sandeep Bhagat.Reports suggested that Sandeep was sitting under a tree near his house when the lightning struck, tragically ending his life. The powerful force of the lightning bolt proved fatal leaving the community in shock and mourning. Sandeep was a student at the Upgraded Middle School in Mathadih, and his family relied on farming for their livelihood. In another distressing incident, a Peepal tree near Durga Maidan was engulfed in flames after being struck by lightning. The impact of the thunderbolt ignited the tree causing the platform constructed around it to catch fire as well. Local residents immediately rushed to douse the flames, pouring water in a desperate attempt to extinguish the fire. Despite their efforts, the fire had already engulfed the Peepal tree by the time the fire brigade arrived at the scene, leaving it completely burnt.
