Jamshedpur, July : District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Jamshedpur, organized legal awareness programme at Motilal Nehru Public School, Sakchi and Gulmohar High School, Telco, on Saturday.
At MNPS, First Class Judicial Magistrates Prashant Singh and Alok Ojha were present along with panel lawyers and para-legal volunteers. Judicial Magistrates Shree Priya and Jyotsna Pandey were present at Gulmohar High School, Telco.

Addressing the students, the magistrates spoke on substance abuse and Project Vatsalya. They said around 28 crore people in the country were victims of substance abuse of different types. Women and children of tender age were also becoming addicted to liquor, cigarette, gutkha, ganja, bhang, charas, opium and drugs, they said.
The magistrates said the money spent per year on addiction by the victims is around Rs 10.22 lakh crore which is more than the defence budget of our country. Addiction also leads to diseases, crimes and accidents and total destruction.
The speakers said education and rehabilitation of addiction victims is important to bring them back on the right path. Project Vatsalya aims to rehabilitate addiction victims and bring them to social mainstream, they said.
