Jamshedpur, May 25: As part of the CSIR-Integrated Skill Initiative project, CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory (NML) organized a visit to the laboratory on May 25, 2023. This visit aimed to foster connections between college students, teachers, and the laboratory, while making science learning more engaging and captivating.
A total of 54 students from Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial College, Jamshedpur, along with four teachers, namely Dr. Arbind Prasad Pandit, Dr. Animesh Kumar Bakshi, Dr. Puja Kumari Dutta, and Dr. Lushi Rani Mishra, visited CSIR-NML to explore the world of scientific research and innovation.
The primary objective of the visit was to facilitate the exchange of information and encourage student participation in the development of innovative scientific concepts.
Dr. P.N. Mishra, Senior Principal Scientist and Group Leader of the KRIT Division, delivered the welcome address, providing a brief introduction to CSIR-NML as one of India’s leading research organizations. He highlighted the institution’s five core R&D divisions and three R&D support divisions, equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities. Dr. Mishra also motivated the students to pursue science and expressed the hope for future collaborations between the students and CSIR Laboratory.
Dr. Animesh Jana, Senior Scientist and Project Leader of the CSIR-Integrated Skill Initiative project, shed light on the various skill development programs available for college students. He also discussed the ongoing research and development activities conducted at CSIR-NML.
Dr. Arvind Prasad Pandit, Head of the Chemistry department at Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial College, expressed gratitude to CSIR-NML and encouraged the students to explore the realms of science and technology.
Throughout the day-long program, the students and teachers visited the Urban Ore Recycling Centre, Engineering workshops, 3D printing area, Women Technology Park Project site, NML museum, and library.
Dr. Manis Kumar Jha, Chief Scientist of the MER Division, and Dr. Jhumki Hait, Senior Principal Scientist of the MER Division at CSIR-NML, introduced the participants to the Urban Ore Recycling Centre. Dr. Jha demonstrated the e-waste recycling process, emphasizing its significance for future research and ecosystem preservation.
Moreover, the students and teachers actively participated in a lecture delivered by Mr. Uday Bhaskar Rao, Principal Scientist and Head of the Engineering Division. The lecture titled “Process Energy Auditing for Industrial Scale Plant- A Brief Introduction” discussed the impact of energy audits on industries and businesses. The participants eagerly engaged in the lecture, gaining valuable knowledge. Overall, the students and teachers expressed their immense satisfaction with the insightful experience gained during the laboratory visit
