Ranchi: Chhavi Ranjan, the former Ranchi Deputy Commissioner facing allegations in a land scam case, will be spending Diwali in detention after the Ranchi Special Court for the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) delivered its verdict on his bail application. Following a hearing held on Thursday, the court had reserved its decision and ultimately rejected Chhavi Ranjan’s plea for bail.
Special public prosecutor Ramit Satyendra presented the case on behalf of the Enforcement Directorate (ED), while High Court advocate Abhishek Chaudhary argued for Chhavi Ranjan. During the legal proceedings, Chhavi Ranjan’s defense asserted his innocence in seeking bail, while the ED contended that Chhavi Ranjan was complicit in the land scams that took place during his tenure as the Deputy Commissioner of Ranchi. Consequently, the ED argued against granting him bail.
The ED is currently investigating two cases associated with the land scam in Ranchi, with Chhavi Ranjan named as an accused in both. The specific case for which he sought bail pertains to the fraudulent purchase and sale of land on Cheshire Home Road, involving the use of counterfeit documents.
