Chaibasa, July 2: The lackadaisical attitude of underground cable laying contract firm KEI has caused severe damage to the waterline in Badi Bazaar area and several ultimatum to the contractor to ensure careful execution of work in a manner not to damage the water supply line, have fallen on deaf ears.

Today, Chaibasa legislator Dipak Birua during his visit to Badi Bazaar Mufassil Thana area, went to see the road behind the police station and was furious to see a large section of the waterline damaged during the process of underground cable laying by KEI officials and workers. People complained to the legislator that the damage caused to the water mains resulted in dry taps since the past two days in Badi Bazaar, Kumhar Toli, Telengakhuri, Mary Tola, Barkandaj Tola, Pulhatu, Gwala Patti, Nichey Tola, Hind Chowk and other localities. Birua lost his cool and gave a sounding to the KEI officials and workers as also to the PHED officers and electrical department personnel present at the spot.

The legislator said that the contractor for underground cabling had been told to employ manual workers to accommodate the lockdown hit labourers but the directives were lost on the contractor. Birua said, Working with machines has been causing potable and drinking water woes to the denizens. Enough ultimatums have been given to the KEI contractor firm. There has been a lack of coordination among PHED, Electric Department and the KEI resulting in this plight. He told the PHED officials to file an FIR against KEI immediately.

Those who were with the legislator during the inspection were, among others, Executive President of Nagar Parishad Doma Minj, Parshad members Laxmi Kachchhap, Zeba Farhat, Kundan Prajapati, Rajaram Gupta, Babu Ahmad, Sanchu Tirkey, Electricity Department officer Gautam Rana, PHED official Dharmendra Kumar and KEI representative Faiz Ahmad.
