Kunal raises closed East Singhbhum copper mines issue with Union Minister

Jamshedpur, December 7. BJP Jharkhand spokesperson cum former MLA Kunal Sarangi met Union parliamentary affairs, coal and mines minister Prahlad Joshi in New Delhi on Thursday.

He drew the minister’s attention towards the closed Surda, Chapri and Kendadih mines in Musabani of East Singhbhum district.

He informed that the Indian Copper Complex (ICC) unit located at Maubhandar in East Singhbhum district of Jharkhand, which was once the pride of Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL), is deserted today. All the copper mines in ICC area are currently closed.

Bhoomipujan has been done for restarting the Rakha-Chapari mine. But the work is still in limbo. Besides this, a concentration plant is lying closed due to lack of tender.

He urged that the Central Government to coordinate with the Jharkhand Government and take immediate initiative towards reopening the closed mines as it will lead to employment to the people at the local level.

He said that people are also worried about the future of the Indian Copper Complex (ICC).

Union Minister Prahlad Joshi assured to take appropriate initiative after review and study on these issues.
