Jamshedpur: Kolhan University is set for its sixth convocation, scheduled to be held on November 26. On the instructions of Vice Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Anjila Gupta, a review meeting of conveners of all subcommittees was held in the convocation hall, chaired by DSW Dr. Sanjay Kumar. The meeting assessed the progress of tasks assigned to various departments for the upcoming ceremony.
During the meeting, information was collected from each committee regarding the status of their preparations. Controller of Examinations Dr. Rinki Dorai and OSD Dr. Prabhat Singh informed that nearly 30,000 certificates for the 2022–23 session and around 31,000 certificates for the 2023–24 session have already been signed by both the Controller of Examinations and the Vice Chancellor. They assured the committee that the pending signing work would be completed by November 20. Preparations related to medals and other convocation materials are also expected to be completed by the same date, as per the Vice Chancellor’s directive.

The Replacement Committee briefed the gathering that all their responsibilities would be fulfilled by November 18. Committees responsible for seating arrangements, stage set-up, certificate distribution, and announcements also shared updates on the completion of their respective assignments.
Artisans and contractors involved in beautification and infrastructure tasks within the convocation hall were instructed to finish all work by November 18 without fail. The DSW, along with Dr. Naresh Kumar, reviewed the progress of the Souvenir Committee and informed that congratulatory messages had been received and typing was in the final stages. Efforts are being made to ensure that dummy copies of the souvenir are ready by November 18. Messages from some MLAs, who were assigned this responsibility, were still pending and are expected to arrive shortly.
Senior university officials, including Proctor Dr. Rajendra Bharti, Registrar Dr. Purushottam Siyal, Finance Officer Dr. Sanjay Singh, CCDC Dr. R.K. Chaudhary, and Deputy Registrar Murari Kumar Mishra, along with conveners and members of various subcommittees, were present at the meeting.
Kolhan University Opens Ph.D. Admissions for 2025-26, filling 339 seats across 21 subjects
Jamshedpur: Kolhan University (K.U.), Chaibasa, has formally launched the admission process for its Full-Time Ph.D. Programme for the academic session 2025-2026. A notification issued by the Registrar on November 17, 2025, confirmed that the university is inviting online applications to fill a total of 339 seats across 21 diverse disciplines spanning Arts, Science, and Commerce.
The window for aspirants to submit their applications is notably brief, running for only 11 days, from November 17, 2025, to November 27, 2025. Candidates must apply exclusively through the dedicated online portal, https://www.kuuniv.in/
The university is offering research opportunities in 21 subjects, including Anthropology, Bangla, Botany, Chemistry, Commerce, Economics, English, Geography, Geology, Hindi, History, Home Science, Mathematics, Odia, Philosophy, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, Sanskrit, Urdu, and Zoology. The highest number of vacancies are available in Philosophy (52), followed closely by Commerce (47), and History (39).
In alignment with the UGC Regulation 2022, the selection process prioritizes candidates with national-level qualifications. Candidates who hold UGC/CSIR Junior Research Fellowships (JRF) or are regular assistant professors from K.U. ‘s constituent colleges fall under Category I and will be selected solely through a 100-mark interview/Viva-Voce. Meanwhile, Category II candidates, including those who have qualified UGC/CSIR NET-Assistant Professor, NET (Ph.D.), or GATE, will be evaluated based on a weighted system: 70% for their qualifying score and 30% for the interview. All applicants must hold a master’s degree with at least 55% marks, with a 5% relaxation granted to reserved categories (50%).
The entire selection cycle is slated for rapid completion. Following the application deadline on November 27, the shortlisting of eligible candidates will take place between November 28 and December 1. Departmental interviews are scheduled from December 2 to December 6, with the final results to be declared on December 15, 2025. The Ph.D. coursework is scheduled to commence shortly thereafter, on January 2, 2026. The application fee is set at ₹2,000 for General/BC-I/BC-II/EWS candidates and ₹1,000 for ST/SC/Differently-abled candidates.
