Jamshedpur, July 28: District information and public relation department on Thursday organized awareness seminar on ‘protection from lightning, mitigation measures against lightning and situation of lightning in risky areas’ at Potka block premises.
At the event panchayat representatives, revenue officers and rural journalists were informed about lightning and how to tackle it. In the presence of Potka Block Panchayat Samiti chief Sukurani Tudu, circle officer Dwarika Baitha, district public relation officer (DPRO) Sanjay Kumar and district disaster management officer Pankaj Kumar gave detailed information about what one must do during lightning.
DPRO Sanjay Kumar said Kolhan region of Jharkhand is very sensitive towards lightning which results in death of several human and animals every year while several houses are destroyed. The loss of life and destruction can be minimized if awareness is spread and people are caution.
Disaster management officer Pankaj Kumar informed that rural areas are more sensitive towards lightning when compared with the urban.
The farms, ponds, lakes, mud houses, lonely long tress, lonely houses in the farms invite lightning.
The panchayat representatives were provided printed material and appealed them to organize awareness program in their villages and make the villagers vigilant towards lightning.
