Kolhan girls show their moves in Football Tournament

Jamshedpur, Sept 19: In order to encourage girl participation in various sporting activities and inculcate the value of sports in their lives, Tata Steel Rural Development Society, for the very first time has organised a football tournament for the girls of 32 Kasturba Gandhi Baalika Vidyalaya (KGBV) schools. Around 1000 girls are participating in the event.

These girls belong to KGBVs from Seraikela Kharsawan, East Singhbhum and West Singhbhum districts. The tournament was inaugurated by Mrs Mita Singhal, wife of Mr Rajeev Singhal, VP, Raw Material, Tata Steel today at Armoury Ground. She motivated the girls to make sports their way of life. The tournament will continue till September 21, 2014.

A total of 64 teams comprising girls in Under-14 and Open category are participating in the 3-day tournament. On day-1, in the U/14 category, KGBV, Jamshedpur and KGBV, Dumaria have qualified to the semi-finals while in the open category, KGBV Musabani and KGBV Kharsawan have reached the semi-finals. Similarly, a second set of qualifying round of the tournament will be held on September 20, 2014, which will be inaugurated by Mrs Radha Tripathi, wife of Mr S D Tripathi, VP, Human Resource Management, Tata Steel.

The finals of the tournament will be held on September 21, 2014 from 11 am onwards at the Armoury Ground, Jamshedpur. Mr. Sandeep Kumar, EIC, Secondary product, Tata Steel, and Mrs Sandeep Kumar, will inaugurate the closing and prize distribution ceremony.
