Jamshedpur, July 12: Mango police forwarded Ashish Mukhi, the Dhatkidih youth accused of kidnapping a 10 year-old boy in Azadnagar, to judicial custody on Friday. An FIR was lodged against Mukhi on the complaint of Rizwana Parveen, mother of the minor boy.

Police officials said Mukhi was produced in the court today after which he was sent to Ghaghidih Central Jail.

Cops said they had recorded the statement of the 10 year old boy in connection with the alleged kidnapping attempt by the accused. Taha told cops he was purchasing pakodi from a shop near the police station when Mukhi came to him and asked about his fathers name and profession. Mukhi allegedly asked the minor to come along with him in the name of handing the latter Rs 800 due to his father. Before he could take the boy along with him, the minors maternal uncle Zeeshan passed by and inquired about the matter. Sensing something fishy, Zeeshan spoke to the minors father Yaar Mohammad. Zeeshan claimed that Mukhi was trying to kidnap the boy. Later, a mob gathered on the spot and thrashed Mukhi before handing him over to police.

At the police station, a mob of local residents created ruckus. Police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the mob.
