Jamshedpur: Kadma police dismantled an active bike-lifting gang on Monday, arresting its alleged kingpin, Sonu Karua (alias ‘Lolo’). The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the department’s effort to curb rising vehicle thefts in the industrial city.
Officers apprehended Karua, a resident of Goswami Path in Bhatia Basti, during a routine vehicle inspection on the Kadma–Sonari Link Road.
Suspicious Plates Lead to Arrest
The operation began when police noticed a suspicious motorcycle during standard inspections. Upon stopping the vehicle, officers discovered the rider was using a forged registration number. They immediately took Karua into custody for questioning.
Under sustained interrogation, Karua confessed to multiple motorcycle thefts across the region. Based on his disclosures, police recovered three stolen bikes linked to the racket.
“The accused has a prior criminal record and has operated this illegal racket for a considerable period,” revealed DSP Headquarters-2 Manoj Thakur during a Tuesday press briefing.
Widening the Investigation
Police are now probing deeper into the network to identify and apprehend Karua’s accomplices. Officials expressed confidence that further arrests will follow as they dismantle the remainder of the gang.
Authorities believe this crackdown will serve as a strong deterrent against the growing menace of bike thefts in the Kadma area.
