No Bags Day turns creative at Gulmohur High School Jamshedpur

Students participate in art session promoting culture and creativity

Jamshedpur, April 11: Gulmohur High School came alive with colours, creativity, and cultural learning as Akshaykala organised a special art workshop for 220 Class 7 students on Friday. Observed as a “No Bags Day,” the initiative aimed to promote experiential learning beyond textbooks.

Students were introduced to five traditional Indian art forms—Lippan, Warli, Alpona, Madhubani, and Sohrai. Under expert guidance, they actively participated in hands-on activities, exploring different techniques and materials while gaining a deeper understanding of India’s rich artistic heritage.

The workshop was conducted by Akshaykala members Muskan and Rohan, along with artisans Rakshamani Kisku, Bunu, Megha, and Vaishnavi. Their practical knowledge and experience added authenticity to the session. School alumni Ashutosh Singh, Ankit Singh, and Ashutosh Kumar also joined the event, motivating students through their involvement.

The programme concluded with an Odissi dance performance by Abhijeet, adding a cultural touch to the day’s activities.

Principal Priti Sinha appreciated the initiative, stating that such workshops help integrate vocational skills into education. She said these platforms not only encourage creativity but also develop practical skills and an entrepreneurial mindset among students. She also highlighted the importance of supporting local artisans and preserving traditional art forms by connecting them with the younger generation.
