JVM calls off economic blockade after receiving written assurance from NHAI

Jamshedpur : Jharkhand Vikash Morcha on Sunday called off its economic blockade at NH 33 following a written assurance from the officials of National Highways Authority of India ( NHAI) that the construction work will soon begin as the rain stops.

The blockade was called in protest against the delay in repairing the stretch connecting Ranchi to Kolkata, which is riddled with potholes.

The representatives of NHAI handed a letter signed by D K Bharati, deputy manager declaring that the 6 Km stretch on NH 33 will be repaired as the rain stops within 60 days.

Jamshedpur MP Ajoy Kumar who led the campaign declared the calling off of the campaign at Sakchi police station where he was detained.

Meanwhile hundreds of JVM activists staged demonstration and vehicles failed to move. The administration had also made elaborate arrangements at thoroughfares leading to NH-33 to prevent the supporters from assembling there.

But the JVM members were not deterred. They created intermittent jams between Pardih Kali Mandir and Baharagora. Vehicle movement was disrupted at Phuldungri square (Ghatshila), Chakulia, Jagannathpur and Barsole in Baharagora.
