Jamshedpur, Oct 17: The general meeting (AGM) of the Jusco Shramik Union, the authorized union for Tata Steel UISL (formerly Jusco), concluded peacefully, marking significant changes in its structure and operations. The meeting saw the unanimous approval of new election rules and other critical decisions.
One of the most notable changes is the renaming of the union; it is now officially called the Tata Steel UISL Shramik Union. Additionally, the residence address of former General Secretary SL Das has been updated from Sonari to the union office located on Bistupur J Road.

In an effort to streamline the union’s operations, the number of office bearers has been reduced from 12 to 10, eliminating one post of Assistant Secretary and one post of Vice President. The number of committee members has also been cut from 23 to 17, a reduction of six members.
Raghunath Pandey, the union president, stated, “Only those changes which were necessary have been made. The general meeting has been conducted after obtaining approvals from all levels, starting from the SDO. Therefore, this is not a violation of the code of conduct.”
Furthermore, new rules governing elections were established, stipulating that office bearers and committee members will serve a tenure of three years, with elections occurring concurrently. The provision for co-option has been modified to allow only one individual to be co-opted for either the President or General Secretary position, a shift from the previous allowance for three co-options.
The meeting also addressed union finances, increasing employee donations from 3% to 4% of their basic salary annually. The financial accounts for the past five years were approved, reinforcing the union’s commitment to transparency and fiscal responsibility.
