Jamshedpur: Raise your voice, not the sea level, this years theme by United Nations on World Environment Day gels well with our campaign Zimmedaar Nagrik Zimmedaar Shaher. To mark the occasion JUSCO organized series of event on 5 June 2014 across the town. The objective was to create awareness for a mass movement to plant trees and make Jamshedpur a Garden City.
The day started at 6.30 am when Ashish Mathur, MD, JUSCO went to the Joggers Park, Sonari for tree plantation drive. Children of Bharat Sevasharam Sanga put up a grand show and participated in the event.
The second programme was at Domohani (Rivers Meet), Marine Drive at 8 am. Mathur along with Raghunath Pandey, President, JUSCO Shramik Union took part in the massive tree plantation drive. During good old days, Domohani was full of dense trees and used to look like a forest land. But over the years the trees have been cut and the area started being encroached. JUSCO took up the initiative and earmarked a large patch of land, almost 3.5 acres, for tree plantation.
Around 1500 tree saplings were planted to protect the land and convert it into a green zone. JUSCO has embarked upon this drive and has plans to plant 25,000 trees in this financial year. Citizens from across the town, social organizations, Bagan Area Vikas Samiti, Kendriya Varisth Nagrik Sangha, Joggers Club, people living in the vicinity, team from Hindustan Media, Office Bearers and UCMs of JUSCO Shramik Union, Sharad Kumar, GM (PS &CRM), Deepak P Kamath, GM (HR/IR), A P Singh, DGM (CR&CC), Srilal, S L Das, R K Dubey were present during the function. If every citizen of India plant 4 trees in their lifetime, imagine with the population of 125 crores, India will become the greenest country in the world. He further said that Jamshedpur is the collective responsibility of all the citizens and not only of JUSCO and Tata Steel. JUSCO can make an effort and provide facilities but it is the responsibility of every citizen to protect and maintain it. Raghunath Pandey proposed a vote of thanks.
