Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Sunday that JSW Group and South Korean steel giant POSCO will jointly establish a mega steel plant in the Patna area of Keonjhar district. The project will see an investment between Rs 30,000 crore to Rs 40,000 crore, with an MoU already signed.

Addressing a public gathering at Champua, CM Majhi expressed his commitment to industrial growth in the region. “I had previously vowed to set up a mega steel plant in Keonjhar district. The Almighty was kind enough to make me the Chief Minister, enabling me to realize this dream,” he said.

The CM further revealed that multiple steel industries will be developed across Keonjhar, bringing a total investment of over Rs 1 lakh crore into the district.

The announcement follows an MoU signed on January 28 during the Utkarsh Odisha-Make in Odisha Conclave, where JSW Group committed to setting up a 5-MTPA steel plant in Keonjhar. An earlier agreement between JSW and POSCO in October last year also aimed at building an integrated steel plant in India.

Beyond steel, the JSW-POSCO partnership will focus on renewable energy and battery materials, enhancing industrial growth in Odisha.

Additionally, CM Majhi announced Rs 4 crore for Chandra Shekhar College, Champua, to construct a three-storey building, adding to the Rs 3.30 crore grant announced earlier by Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj for the college’s development.
