Jamshedpur, August 19: New synthetic track will be laid at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Thursday.
In regard to the increase in number of athletes, Tata Steel wants the players to get trained with modern amenities.
Hence in a short inauguration ceremony, T.V.Narendran, MD Tata Steel would declare open the laying procedure of a new synthetic track in the complex.
The programme is scheduled at 3 pm early in the evening. He along with Sunil Bhaskaran, VP Corporate affairs of Tata Steel would also be interacting with the special athletes of Jamshedpur who represented Special Olympic Bharat at the World Special Olympics Summer games held in Los Angeles.
It may be noted that the 400-metre track, first laid at the JRD Tata stadium in 1993, was upgraded to international standards in 2003.
But, the last mega event that the Sports Complex hosted was the 47th Open National Athletics Championship (ONAC) in 2007. In recent years, it had become worn-out that it was unfit to host even basic sprint events.
