Journalists Welfare Association demands Journalist Protection Act

Jamshedpur, June 29: All India Small and Medium Journalists Welfare Association (AISMJWA) demanding safety and security for the journalists in Jharkhand and implementation of Journalist Protection Act in the state, met DGP in Ranchi on Wednesday.

Delegation of AISMJWA led by state president Prabudh Kumar Bjpayee, state general secretary Sriniwas Suman and spokesperson Pritam Singh Bhatia met the state police chief and said that journalists in Jharkhand are being targeted. Despite being called the fourth pillar of democracy there is no law for their protection.

The delegation said that till Journalist Protection Act is implemented a high level committee should be formed to probe into the attack on journalists and strict action against should be taken against the culprits.

The association also demanded high level inquiry before filing any case. All the police officers should be ordered to treat journalists respectfully and state level police-journalists co-ordination committee should also be formed were SP’s of all the district and local journalists should be involved.
