Netaji Subhash Manch Jamshedpur celebrates moirang victory day

Recalling INA’s historic triumph

Jamshedpur, April 14: Moirang Victory Day was observed with great dignity at The Milanee Hall under the aegis of the Netaji Subhash Manch, continuing its annual tradition of commemorating a significant chapter of India’s freedom struggle. The programme was presided over by Manch President P.K. Nandi.

In his address, P.K. Nandi recalled that in April 1944, under the leadership of Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the Azad Hind Fauj (INA) along with the Japanese Army launched an offensive against British forces in the northeastern regions of Manipur and Nagaland. He highlighted the historic victory at Moirang, where British forces were defeated.

Speakers noted that on April 14, 1944, Colonel Shaukat Ali Malik hoisted the flag of the Azad Hind Government at Moirang, marking a symbolic moment of liberation on Indian soil. They described the event as a proud milestone in the country’s freedom movement.

The speakers also expressed concern that this important chapter remains relatively unknown among younger generations. The programme was organised to honour the legacy of the INA and to educate youth about its contribution to India’s independence struggle.

The event featured cultural performances, including songs by Milonee SurSargam, dance presentations by Danfit International, Gurukul, and Bharat Seba Asharom School. The programme was anchored by Sreeja Saha.

Prominent guests included Chief Guest Shekhar Dey, Bikash Mukherjee, Ankur Singh (Deputy Mayor), representatives of ex-servicemen associations, and several other dignitaries. The event concluded with a message of remembrance and patriotic pride.
