Jamshedpur, July 8: Joint Secretary of state government Kamleshwar Prasad Singh has written to East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner seeking a report on the lease bandobasti of government land in urban areas occupied by local residents for residential purpose before 1st January 1985.
Sources said the letter comes in the wake of the demand recently raised by the state food and civil supplies minister Saryu Roy for adopting an appropriate mechanism to give ownership rights to people residing on leased land.
Roy had earlier said that a large number of people have been residing on government and leased land in Mango and other areas of the city for a long time. But the status of such land is shown as illegal possession in government documents, he said.
