JNAC to confiscate polypropylene bags from June 15

Jamshedpur: Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee is going to ban the use of non-woven polypropylene (PP) bags in the city from 15th June onwards. Those found possessing, stocking or distributing such bags would be fined, said Sanjay Kumar, Special Officer, JNAC.

Kumar, who addressed vegetable vendors and traders at the Refuse Pavilion on the second day of the ongoing �6R Conclave� on Sunday, said even the PP bags were harmful for environment. Using, distributing or selling such bags would invite action by the JNAC, he said.

At the conclave, attended by more than 11 vegetable sellers, the participants said the ban on polythene bags had led a sizeable number of consumers to use cloth bags. Earlier, the consumers were not happy, but now they have understood that it is wise not to ask for plastic bags.

The traders assured the JNAC Special Officer of full support in making the no polythene campaign a grand success. Madhusudan Kumar, a Sakchi-based vegetable trader, said the PP bags should be completely banned as they were harmful to the environment.
