JNAC marks 15 Jamshedpur buildings for illegal commercial use of basements

Jamshedpur: The Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) has marked 15 buildings for running commercial activities in basements designated for parking. Notices will be issued to the building owners by Monday, and failure to respond within the stipulated time will result in the sealing of the premises.

The crackdown began on Friday, with two inspection teams formed to identify violations in Jamshedpur East and West assembly constituencies. The teams, comprising the city manager, engineers, and assistant city investigators, are tasked with ensuring compliance with approved building plans.

The action follows a directive from the Jharkhand High Court to address illegal constructions. During a meeting chaired by Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Aniket Sachan on Thursday, it was decided to expedite the process of marking such buildings, issuing immediate notices, and initiating sealing actions where required.

JNAC Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar confirmed that inspections have been intensified, and strict instructions have been issued to identify and list non-compliant buildings. On the first day of the operation, 15 buildings were identified for violations. Notices have been served to these owners, warning them to rectify the situation promptly.

The initiative aims to curb the misuse of basements, which are legally mandated to serve as parking spaces. Officials emphasized that buildings found in violation will face strict actions, including sealing, if owners fail to address the issues within the notice period.

The move is part of JNAC’s broader efforts to ensure adherence to urban planning regulations and address growing concerns over illegal constructions and lack of parking facilities in the city.
