Jamshedpur, Jan 12: Jharkhand’s minimum temperature has seen a notable rise of 3.6°C in a single day, with the lowest temperature recorded at 7.3°C in Jagannathpur on January 12. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum temperature in the state stood at 27.2°C, a slight drop from the previous day’s 27.6°C. The IMD reported that visibility in Jamshedpur was at its lowest, recorded at 1100 meters, with light to moderate fog observed in several areas.
“Although temperatures have increased, they remain below normal levels in some places,” said an official from the Ranchi weather center. “Jamshedpur, for example, saw its highest temperature rise to 25.4°C, still 1.6°C below normal, while the minimum temperature rose slightly to 9°C, remaining 1.1°C below normal.”
In Ranchi, the minimum temperature increased by 2°C, reaching 9.6°C, while the maximum temperature was recorded at 24.5°C, a 1.5°C rise from the previous day. Despite the rise in temperatures, they are still higher than the usual figures for this time of year. Other cities like Daltonganj and Bokaro also saw slight increases in their temperatures.
The weather has remained dry, with no rainfall recorded in Jharkhand during the past 24 hours. “The forecast predicts light to moderate fog in many areas till January 15,” said the Ranchi weather center. “There will be partial clouds throughout the day until January 14, causing fog effects in the morning.”
Looking ahead, the weather is expected to clear by January 15, with temperatures likely to dip again, potentially falling below 10°C. “After January 15, temperatures could drop significantly as the weather clears,” the official added, signalling the return of colder conditions.
The cold wave that had gripped the state earlier in the week, with minimum temperatures dipping to 3°C on January 9, is expected to return after a brief respite.
