Ranchi: Police today booked Jharkhand Mukti Morcha MLA and Parliamentary election candidate from Giridih Jagannath Mahato, his brother Baijnath Mahato and seven others in connection with the killing of a youth, identified as Santosh Pandey, on Friday. The deceased was allegedly assaulted by the accused persons in Chandrapura police station area of Bokaro yesterday.
The superintendent of police, Bokaro, Jitendra Kumar Singh, said two persons had been arrested while the others were still at large. He said an investigation was on to find out whether the MLA and his brother had any role in the killing.
The SSP said the youth was attacked over an alleged love affair. He said police will arrest the MLA and other accused persons in case their complicity in the crime was proved beyond doubt in the police investigation.
He said the deceased was a resident of Alargo village. He had an affair with a girl of his village. He had made a dying declaration and accused the MLA and his kin of assaulting him.
