Jamshedpur: A delegation of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leaders met East Singhbhum Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar on Friday to seek relaxation in road safety rules in favour of school van drivers.

The leaders included Baharagora MLA Kunal Sarangi, Seraikela MLA Champai Soren, former MLA Ramdas Soren and others. They said the stringent measures being taken by the district administration to ensure safety of school children were adversely affecting the school van and auto-rickshaw drivers.

After hearing the JMM leaders’ demands, the DC made it clear that the district administration was not going to relax the road safety norms for anyone. The DC said the road safety campaign would continue nonstop. He said the strike called by the school auto-rickshaw and van drivers was inappropriate and uncalled for. He said certain auto-rickshaw and van drivers were misleading people on the ongoing road safety checking by the district administration.

Meanwhile, the DC held a meeting with the district officials in connection with the ongoing campaign against overloading in school vehicles. He said action should be taken against those still found flouting the safety rules.
