Ranchi: The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) are intensifying discussions over seat-sharing ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025. On Tuesday, a delegation from JMM held a meeting with the RJD leadership in Patna to clarify its position on key constituencies.
JMM General Secretary Vinod Pandey and Minister Sudivya Kumar represented the party, while RJD leaders Tejashwi Yadav, Jayprakash Yadav, Abdul Bari Siddiqui and Bhola Yadav attended on behalf of RJD. The main agenda of the meeting was to reach an understanding on Bihar’s border constituencies, where JMM is staking a strong claim.
JMM has laid claim to 12–15 tribal-dominated constituencies in Bihar bordering Jharkhand, including Tarapur, Katoria, Manihari, Jhajha, Banka, Thakurganj, Rupauli, Rampur, Banmankhi, Jamalpur, Pirpanti and Chakai. The party argues that it has a solid support base in these areas, which could significantly contribute to the alliance’s success.
In the previous Jharkhand Assembly elections, JMM had allocated seven seats to RJD, of which RJD won four. Based on this precedent, JMM is seeking a fair share in Bihar. Sources suggest that if negotiations succeed, JMM could secure four to five seats, but finalizing the arrangement in border constituencies remains a complex task due to overlapping voter bases and local dynamics.
A JMM leader said, “Our claim is based on historical support in these regions. We expect the alliance to acknowledge our contribution to ensure mutual victory.” Discussions are expected to continue in the coming weeks as both parties work to finalize seat allocations.
