Jamshedpur: The state government has announced plans to transform the Saranda and Dalma wildlife sanctuaries in Kolhan into world-class eco-tourism destinations. Recognizing the immense potential of these forests, officials have been directed to prepare an action plan to promote eco-tourism while preserving biodiversity and generating local employment.

Saranda, renowned as one of Asia’s largest forests, is rich in biodiversity and home to rare plant species. Similarly, Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary, known for its significant elephant population, offers a unique opportunity for wildlife enthusiasts. “Saranda and Dalma are treasures of biodiversity and can be developed into top-tier tourist destinations. The forest department is committed to eco-tourism development,” said Saba Alam Ansari, Divisional Forest Officer, Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary.

To ensure effective planning, a team of officers will visit Kerala and Karnataka to study successful eco-tourism models in those states. The insights gained will help draft a comprehensive blueprint tailored to the unique features of Saranda and Dalma. The state government has emphasized the need for the Forest Department and Tourism Department to work in close coordination to achieve these goals.

“Developing eco-tourism in Saranda and Dalma will not only attract international tourists but also create employment opportunities for locals while preserving nature,” a senior official stated. Instructions have also been given to study the GG tourism model as part of the planning process.

The initiative aims to balance tourism development with environmental conservation. By leveraging the natural beauty and biodiversity of Kolhan’s forests, the state seeks to position itself as a leader in eco-tourism, offering unique experiences to visitors while fostering sustainable development for local communities
