Jamshedpur gripped by chilling house-entry killings: Transporter Santosh Singh murdered in Mango

Jamshedpur:  A chilling pattern of killings involving entry into victims’ homes to commit murder continues to plague the city, with the latest incident claiming the life of transporter Santosh Singh near his Mango residence late on Sunday, January 19, 2025.

This modus operandi, which has surfaced repeatedly over the years, has left a trail of bloodshed in Jamshedpur. Despite police efforts and occasional breakthroughs, the menace persists. CCTV footage in Santosh Singh’s case has provided significant leads and raids are underway to track the culprits.

Recent incident: Mango

Santosh Singh, a resident of Mango Gurudwara Road, was pursued by assailants and shot dead in a nearby house where he had tried to take refuge. Eyewitnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots and initial investigations suggest the involvement of Rohit Dixit and others. “The CCTV footage is promising and we are closing in on the suspects,” said a senior police official.

A grim history of house-entry murders

Case One: Baghbeda (June 14, 2024)

Rohit Singh, alias Chhotu Singh, was shot dead in Kitadih over an old feud. Family members alleged involvement of Sanjay Sharma and Kailash Choubey.

Case Two: Sidhgora (June 8, 2022)

Manpreet Pal Singh was murdered at his Shiv Singh Bagan residence for giving testimony. The police arrested Akshay Singh, Rahul Singh and Naveen Singh.

Case Three: Kadma (December 17, 2024)

Alok Bhagat, alias Alok Munna, was killed at his Shastrinagar home in a dispute involving Chhotu Bachcha, Akash Singh and Mohit Singh.

Case Four: Ulidih (September 2, 2024)

Gangster Amarnath Singh’s brother, Shaktinath Singh, was gunned down near his residence over a land dispute. Congress leader Ishwar Singh and others were jailed.

A growing concern

Residents are alarmed by the recurrence of such violent crimes. “This trend of attackers brazenly entering homes is horrifying. It raises serious concerns about safety,” said a local resident.

The police have assured citizens of intensified efforts to curb the trend. “We are committed to bringing these criminals to justice. No one is above the law,” said a senior officer.

As the investigation into Santosh Singh’s murder progresses, the city awaits justice while grappling with a growing sense of insecurity.
