Koderma, Feb 5: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Thursday said that despite the state’s immense contribution to national development through its rich mineral resources, its people continue to face poverty due to long-standing mismanagement.
Addressing a public gathering in Koderma, the Chief Minister highlighted that the state supplies coal, iron, mica and other minerals to the country, yet remains socially and economically backward.
Soren pointed out that Koderma possesses significant mica reserves and stressed that systematic and planned mining could have generated large-scale local employment.
“Had mining been carried out in an organised manner, the youth of Koderma would not have been compelled to migrate to other states in search of livelihood,” he said.
The event also marked the joining of former Zilla Parishad chairperson Shalini Gupta into the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Gupta, who contested the Koderma assembly seat as an Independent in the 2024 elections and secured nearly 27 per cent of the votes, joined the party along with hundreds of her supporters.
The BJP had won the seat, while the RJD, a JMM ally, finished second and Gupta stood third.
Reiterating his government’s commitment to inclusive development, Soren said efforts were underway to ensure that welfare schemes reach the last person in society.
“Our government is working for the upliftment of every section and is determined to deliver the benefits of its schemes to those who need them the most,” he added.
