Jamshedpur, Feb 6: K. Prabhakar Rao, Secretary of the Jharkhand Badminton Association, has been appointed to lead the Indian Para Badminton Team at the BWF Para Badminton World Championship 2026 to be held in Manama, Bahrain, from February 7 to 14.
Rao is also the Joint Secretary of the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and Chairman of Para-Badminton India. He was the first official from eastern India to head Para-Badminton India and has been associated with BAI for nearly a decade. His experience and leadership have played an important role in the growth of para badminton in the country.
Speaking about the upcoming championship, Rao expressed strong confidence in the team’s performance. He said the Indian contingent is expecting to win around 11 to 12 medals, including three gold medals. He also announced that Gourav Khanna will serve as the Head Coach for the championship.
Over the years, Rao has made significant contributions to Indian badminton, helping many players reach international standards. His appointment has brought pride to Jharkhand and the badminton community.
