Jamshedpur: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has reported a sharp rise in temperatures across Jharkhand, with most districts reeling under intense heat and only isolated traces of rainfall offering minimal relief.
According to the evening weather bulletin issued from the Meteorological Centre at Birsa Munda Airport, Seraikela emerged as the hottest location at 41.8°C, closely followed by Jamshedpur (41.7°C), Chaibasa (41.6°C), and Bokaro (41.5°C), all recording temperatures above normal levels. The state capital Ranchi recorded a maximum of 38.2°C, which is 1.5 degrees above normal, while the minimum temperature settled at 25.8°C, significantly higher by 3.8 degrees, indicating uncomfortable warm nights. Jamshedpur too witnessed elevated conditions with a minimum of 27.4°C, nearly 3 degrees above normal.
Rainfall activity remained largely subdued, with BAU Kanke in Ranchi recording the highest precipitation at just 2.0 mm, while most other locations reported either no rainfall or negligible traces. Data from Automated Weather Stations further highlighted the widespread heat, with several districts including Gumla, Khunti, and West Singhbhum hovering around the 39–40°C mark. The IMD noted that both day and night temperatures staying above normal point to a sustained heat build-up across the region. “The consistent rise in temperatures, especially during nighttime, is a clear sign of intensifying heat conditions,” an IMD official said, adding that “isolated light showers may occur in pockets, but they are unlikely to bring any significant relief.” The current trend suggests that Jharkhand will continue to experience hot and humid weather over the next few days, with only brief and scattered rainfall interruptions.
