Jharkhand: Shivraj Singh Chouhan announces monthly allowance of Rs 2100 for women to counter Hemant’s Maiyaan Samman Yojana

Ranchi: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday announced to give Rs 2,100 per month to women, aiming to counter the Hemant Soren-led Jharkhand government’s Maiyaan Samman Yojana, under which women receive Rs 1,000 monthly. Chouhan, who has been interacting with the tribal community for the last two days, stated that while the BJP’s manifesto for the upcoming Jharkhand Assembly elections is yet to be released, the party will follow its promises made in Haryana, which include providing Rs 2,100 monthly for women.

Criticizing the Maiyaan Samman Yojana, Chouhan accused Chief Minister Hemant Soren of copying Madhya Pradesh’s Ladli Behna Yojana. He further lambasted Soren for failing to fulfill a promise made five years ago to provide Rs 2,000 per month for stove expenses.

“In four years and ten months, this amount was not provided, and now, with elections approaching, he is distributing Rs 1,000 monthly from the state treasury,” Chouhan said.

“According to him, if the promised Rs 2,000 had been given for all 60 months of Soren’s term, each woman would have received Rs 1.20 lakh in total, but Soren has only deposited Rs 1,000 per month at the last minute just a few month for elections,” added Chouhan.

The BJP has reportedly been concerned by the growing popularity of the Maiyaan Samman Yojana, which has attracted large gatherings of women at public meetings led by Kalpana Soren, who is spearheading the Maiyaan Samman Yatra across the state.

He also criticized the JMM government for the frequent cancellation of examination papers due to leaks, calling it the “Paper Leak Morcha” instead of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). He assured that if the BJP comes to power, 2,87,400 vacant posts would be filled during the first cabinet meeting.

During his visit to the tribal areas of Netarhat, Chouhan engaged deeply with the community, meeting members of the Baiga, Korba, Birhor, Kisan, and Cheek Baraik tribes.

He embraced tribal customs, playing traditional drums, dancing, and sampling local cuisine, including Gondli rice, corn ghatta, and bamboo kareel bhujia. Chouhan also witnessed traditional tribal songs and dances performed during crop sowing and worship rituals.
