Jamshedpur, Nov 13: As has been his wont Jharkhand Police Association’s district secretary Santosh Mahto has been helping meritorious students from financially weak backgrounds to pursue their higher education. He has been helping them with better school admission and has been known to bear monthly expenses of many students from his own salary.
On Friday, Santosh Mahto handed a cheque for Rs 50,000 to Ankur Mahto of Hathibanda in Jadugoda at the Sakchi Association office. Ankur was accompanied by his uncle Utpal Mahto. Ankur had passed the written examination of NIT and is on the verge of getting admission in the institution. But the lad’s father is currently a victim of paralysis and has been confined to bed for nearly six months as a result of which the pecuniary status of the family is weak. Ankur’s family had been able to stitch together some funds from family and friends but was running short of Rs 50,000. Santosh Mahto came to know about the meritorious student’s plight and he with the cooperation of his friends, colleagues and acquaintances was able to collect the required amount which was handed to Ankur vide a cheque on Friday.
Ankur expressed his gratitude to Santosh Mahto and vowed that once he started earning he too would help poor and needy students to pursue their dreams.
