Jharkhand High Court: Stay on action against DC Manjunath Bhajantri extended until next hearing

Ranchi: The Jharkhand High Court, on Wednesday, heard the petition filed by the former Deputy Commissioner of Deoghar, Manjunath Bhajantri, seeking the annulment of the zero FIR lodged against him in connection with an incident involving MP Nishikant Dubey. The court has decided to extend the stay on coercive action against Manjunath Bhajantri until the next hearing scheduled for January 24, 2024.

The case stems from an incident in August 2022 when MP Nishikant Dubey was halted at the Deoghar airport while en route to Delhi. Subsequently, a zero FIR was filed in Delhi against the then Deputy Commissioner, Manjunath Bhajantri. Allegations were made on behalf of MP Nishikant Dubey, claiming that, at the direction of Manjunath Bhajantri, airport security personnel misbehaved with him, detained him, and issued threats of harm.

Manjunath Bhajantri has consistently denied these allegations, asserting their baselessness. In light of this, his petition sought the cancellation of the zero FIR. The Jharkhand High Court, considering the matter, has decided to maintain the stay on any coercive actions against Manjunath Bhajantri until the upcoming hearing in January 2024.
