Tragic dowry death in Jamshedpur: Woman beaten to death, FIR registered

Jamshedpur: A tragic incident unfolded as 32-year-old Mitali Goswami, residing in Kashidih line number 16 under Sakchi police station, passed away late on Tuesday night. A dowry death case has been registered at Sakchi police station based on the FIR filed by the maternal side of the victim. Mitali’s father, Umesh Chandra Goswami, has leveled allegations of dowry death against Mitali’s husband Nitish Goswami, father Ashok Goswami, mother Meera Goswami, brother-in-law Sonu Goswami, sister-in-law Preeti Goswami, and sister-in-law Radha Goswami.

Umesh Chandra Goswami explained that they reside in Tundi, Dhanbad. Mitali was married to Nitish Goswami in December 2016 following Hindu customs. Initially, everything appeared to be well, but after a few months, Mitali started facing harassment for dowry. Despite the ongoing mistreatment, the family refrained from filing a complaint to avoid public shame, attempting to resolve the matter privately. When Mitali became pregnant, her in-laws expelled her from the house in the hope of having a son. However, Mitali gave birth to a son, leading to her reinstatement at home.

On December 6, the in-laws began demanding a flat, and once again, they expelled Mitali. Umesh Chandra Goswami intervened on multiple occasions, attempting to resolve the disputes. Tragically, on Tuesday evening, Mitali called, pleading to be taken home, as she feared her in-laws would harm her. Shockingly, news later emerged that Mitali had allegedly committed suicide. Upon arriving in the city on Wednesday, her family discovered injury marks on her body. A police investigation is underway, and the accused have been taken into custody following the filing of the complaint.
