Jharkhand High Court seeks details on tribal conversions

Ranchi, July 25: The Jharkhand High Court during a hearing on a public interest litigation (PIL) aimed at halting the conversion of tribal community members across various districts in Jharkhand. During the proceedings, the court urged the state and central governments to provide details on which districts had witnessed these conversions and what measures had been implemented to prevent them.

The next hearing has been scheduled for August 27.

The PIL, filed by Soma Oraon, alleged that individuals from the tribal community were being coerced into converting to other religions through inducements presented under the guise of Changai Sabha. The case was heard by the division bench of Justice R Mukhopadhyay and Justice Pradeep Kumar Srivastava. Advocate Shivani represented the Central Government in the matter.
