Jharkhand High Court displeased at CBI’s non-execution of cases against lawmakers

Ranchi, April 17: The High Court’s suo motu case related to speedy execution of cases of MLAs and MPs in MP-MLA court in Jharkhand state was heard on Wednesday.

Hearing the affidavit from the CBI presenting the status of the case against the MLAs and MPs in the state. CBI told the court that for the last two years no case registered against MP-MLA has been executed.

Expressing dissatisfaction over the reply of CBI, the court said that officers below the rank of SP should not file affidavit in the High Court in the case. The post of the police officer filing the affidavit must be at least SP rank.

The court directed the CBI and ED to file appropriate affidavits in the next hearing and tell them how many cases are pending against the MPs and MLAs in the state and to speed up the trial going on against the MPs and MLAs in the lower court.

The court also said to ensure presence of witnesses during the trial so that their testimony can be given on time and the case can be disposed of as soon as possible.

Fixing the next hearing of the case on May 8, the court has sought answers from CBI and ED.

It may be noted that the Supreme Court had given directions to all the High Courts regarding speedy execution of criminal cases registered against MP-MLAs.
