Jamshedpur, Dec 11: Principal Secretary of the Health Department, Ajay Singh, is set to visit Jamshedpur again on December 12 to inspect the Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Medical College and Hospital. This visit comes after his earlier inspection in August, which revealed significant deficiencies in hospital management. As a result, the then Superintendent, Dr. Ravindra Kumar, was suspended.
To prepare for his upcoming visit, the MGM Hospital management has initiated a thorough review. A meeting of all department heads was held on Tuesday, where they were instructed to address any shortcomings in their respective areas to ensure a smooth inspection. Doctors and officials remained at the college and hospital until late in the evening to make the necessary corrections.
In addition to the preparations for the inspection, the hospital is facing a serious issue with its medicine supply. There is a severe shortage of anti-rabies injections, which are crucial for patients bitten by dogs. The shortage has left many patients in a difficult position, as the injection is both expensive and currently unavailable at the hospital.
A source from the hospital management said, “We are aware of the issue and are working on arranging the required medicines. We understand the inconvenience caused to the patients, especially the financially weaker ones who cannot afford to buy the injection from private sources.”
The hospital typically sees over 40 patients daily in the outpatient department (OPD) who require the anti-rabies injection. Without it, the situation could worsen, particularly for the most vulnerable patients. Doctors at the hospital have expressed concern that if the injection supply is not restored soon, the health complications for patients may increase significantly.
Despite the assurances from the management, the ongoing shortage of essential medicines, including the anti-rabies injection, has raised serious concerns about the quality of care provided at MGM Hospital.
