Jharkhand HC upholds right to organize religious events in Baba Bageshwar Dham Program Case

Ranchi: In a significant decision, Justice Gautam Kumar Chaudhary of the Jharkhand High Court has ruled in favor of the right of people to organize religious events. The case pertains to the proposed program of Baba Bageshwar Dham, led by Government Pandit Dhirendra Krishna Shastri, scheduled from February 10 to 15, 2024, in Palamu.

Following the hearing of the petition, the court issued strict instructions to the Deputy Commissioner of Palamu, emphasizing that organizing religious events is a fundamental right of the people. The court’s decision reflects a recognition of the importance of preserving citizens’ rights to practice and participate in religious activities.

Additionally, the court granted liberty to the state government to file a reply if it wishes to do so. The next hearing in this case is scheduled for January 5. The ruling is expected to have broader implications for the protection and promotion of religious freedoms in the region.
